เป็นสถานที่สำคัญทางประวัติศาสตร์ พระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ 4 เคยเสด็จมาทอดพระเนตรสุริยุปราคาเต็มดวงที่หว้ากอ ชายหาดหว้ากอทอดยาวขนานไปกับแนวสน บรรยากาศดี ปัจจุบันสถานที่นี้เป็นศุนย์กลางทางวิทยาศาสตร์ และให้แหล่งความรู้ทางวิทยาศาสตร์ในหลายๆด้าน โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในด้านดาราศาสตร์ มีนักเรียนจำนวนมากมาเข้าค่ายวิทยาศาสตร์ นอกจากนี้ยังมีพิพิธภัณฑ์สัตว์น้ำ สวนผีเสื้อ เปิดบริการให้นักท่องเที่ยวได้เข้าชม

จากตัวเมืองประจวบฯ ใช้ถนนสละชีพหรือถนนเลียบชายหาด ผ่านอ่าวประจวบฯ อ่าวมะนาว ตลาดคลองวาฬ ไปสู่อุทยานวิทยาศาสตร์ พระจอมเกล้า ณ หว้ากอ ระยะทางประมาณ 10 กิโลเมตร หรือจากสี่แยกประจวบฯ ไปตามเส้นทางหลวงหมายเลข 4 (ถนนเพชรเกษม) เลี้ยวซ้ายที่หลักกิโลเมตร 335 เข้าไป 4 กิโลเมตร ถึงอุทยานฯ
