ศูนย์เรียนรู้ทองบางสะพาน (บ้านทองเม็ด) สร้างขึ้นเพื่อ เป็นสถานที่อัตลักษณ์ของจังหวัดประจวบคีรีขันธ์ เพื่อรวบรวม ประวัติความเป็นมาของทองบางสะพาน ทองเนื้อเก้า อีกทั้งยังเป็นสถานที่ รวบรวมองค์ความรู้ การร่อนทอง ดิน แร่ องค์ประกอบของการเกิดแร่ทองคำไว้ ให้แก่ประชาชนที่สนใจ ได้มาชมกัน ตัวอาคารทำจากไม้ทั้งหลัง ประกอบด้วยไม้มงคล 9 ชนิด อาทิเช่น ไม้กัลปพฤกษ์ ไม้สัก ไม้กันเกรา ไม้ขนุน ไม้เคี้ยม เป็นต้น ทองบางสะพาน บ้านทองเม็ดของเรานั้นไม่เพียงแต่เป็นศูนย์อนุรักษ์วัฒนธรรมที่สำคัญของไทยเท่านั้น ยังมีคำขวัญและวรรณกรรมที่แสดงถึงค่านิยมกันมาตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน เช่น คำขวัญของอำเภอทองบางสะพาน และ วรรณกรรมจากเรื่องขุนช้างขุนแผนที่เรารู้จักกันเป็นอย่างดี สำหรับใครที่สนใจ! ภายในศูนย์การเรียนรู้ มีทั้งหมด 7 สถานี ได้แก่ สถานีที่ 1 เล่าถึงประวัติของทอง สถานีที่ 2 อธิบายลักษณะของดินที่มีทอง สถานีที่ 3 การแยกประเภทของทอง สถานีที่ 4 ผลิตภัณฑ์ที่ทำจากทองบางสะพาน สถานีที่ 5 ทำความรู้จักกับอุปกรณ์ในการร่อนทอง สถานีที่ 6 บ่อทองจำลองและสถานีที่ 7 สถานที่ร่อนทอง
