เป็นวัดเก่าแก่สร้างมาราวปี พ.ศ.2300 มีฐานะแรกเป็นสำนักสงฆ์ตั้งแต่สมัยอยุธยา พัฒนาเป็นวัดเกาะหลักและยกฐานะเป็นพระอารามหลวง เมื่อปี พ.ศ.2515 เป็นที่รู้จักของประชาชนทั่วไป ด้วยความเคารพนับถือ “หลวงพ่อเปี่ยม จันทโชโต” หรือนามสมณศักดิ์ว่า “พระครูสุเมธีวรคุณ” พระเกจิอาจารย์ชื่อดัง อดีตเจ้าคณะจังหวัดประจวบคีรีขันธ์ ซึ่งท่านมีความแม่นยำในการพยากรณ์ดวงชะตา และมีความเชี่ยวชาญในการบรรจุดวงชะตาทางโหราศาสตร์ อีกทั้งยังชำนาญการรักษาโรคด้วยสมุนไพร ตัวอาคารวิหารมีความสวยงามทางด้านศิลปะร่วมสมัย ด้านในพระวิหารประดิษฐานพระประธาน และ หุ้นขี้ผึ้งหลวงปู่เปี่ยม และรูปหล่อเจ้าอาวาสรุ่นหลังๆ ที่มรณะภาพไปแล้วให้ประชาชนทั่วไปแวะมากราบไหว้บูชา นอกจากนี้ยังมีพระบรมสารีริกธาตุพระราชทาน ประดิษฐานตั้งสง่าอยู่ใจกลางพระวิหารอีกด้วย

ทางรถยนต์: จากรุงเทพฯ ใช้เส้นทางสายธนบุรี-ปากท่อ (ทางหลวงหมายเลข 35) ผ่านสมุทรสงครามแล้วเลี้ยวซ้ายเข้าเพชรเกษม (ทางหลวงหมายเลข 4) ผ่านเพชรบุรีเข้าสู่จังหวัดประจวบคีรีขันธ์ หรือจากกรุงเทพฯ ใช้เส้นทางหลวงหมายเลข 4 ผ่านพุทธมณฑล นครปฐม ราชบุรี เพชรบุรี ถึงประจวบคีรีขันธ์ รวมระยะทาง 281 กิโลเมตร ใช้เวลาเดินทางประมาณ 4 ชั่วโมง
